Balmorhea's population is 527. The town came into being in 1906 when some land sellers touted the fact that the area had San Solomon Springs to provide water in the dry climate. San Solomon Springs is now known as Balmorhea State Park. The park has a motel, camping sites for both tents and trailers, hot showers and a huge walled swimming pool that is fed by the springs at a rate of up to 26 million gallons a day. It's 62,000 square foot surface makes this pool one of the largest man-made pools in America. |
