NOVEMBER 22, 2003: DEALEY PLAZA JFK ASSASSINATION SITE

Dallas 40 years later

The 40th Anniversary of one of the most Infamous Dates in American History. People came to Dallas from all over the world to be at this exact spot at that exact time, 12:30 PM, November 22, 2003. There was no official ceremony, however a sound system was set up on the Grassy Knoll providing a sounding board for a series of speakers arranged by a group called the JFK Lancers, these Lancers being dedicated to being some sort of clearinghouse for all the various conspiracy theories associated with JFK. The ex-governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, was one of the more colorful speakers, talking about his visit with Castro, among other things. There was a strange atmosphere, like a religious service, to the proceedings. Much talk of pressuring the government for the supposed 'Truth'. As the moment of the assassination anniversary grew near a speaker intoned solemn words along the lines of "at this moment in 1963 the Battle of Dealey Plaza was waged. This became a killing field which is now sacred ground made holy by the blood of our great fallen leader."  And then about 2 minutes before the fatal moment a group of police cruisers came through the Triple Underpass, up blocked off Elm Street, stopping at the edge of the crowd, the police getting out of their cars in full riot gear. Someone in the crowd was heard to remark they were 40 years late....and then the moment came. Nothing happened. People stood still, not quite knowing what to do, looking around. And then from the opposite side of Dealey Plaza came the mournful tones of a lone bugler blowing taps. With nothing else to look at the crowd surged towards the lone bugler. And then began to slowly disperse.

A big crowd at the Kennedy Assassination 40 year Anniversary at Dealey Plaza. The crowd was estimated to be in the thousands at its biggest. Helicopters hovered overhead.
Reunion Tower hovering above the JFK 40th crowd at Dealey Plaza. This is further down Elm Street on the edge of the Grassy Knoll. Reunion Tower in the distance.
A large media presence besides these Eyes. Here we are inside the covered pavilion area above the Grassy Knoll, looking down on some of the crowd.
Now we are on the Grassy Knoll looking down on the crowd that is standing on Elm Street near the X that marks the spot where the first fatal bullet struck.

The Book Depository Building from which 40 years priors shots were fired. We are now standing on Elm Street, looking up towards the Book Depository Building from which 40 years prior to this moment shots were fired..

In the crowd now, looking across Elm Street towards the part of the Grassy Knoll where speakers are solemnly making note of what occurred at the location 40 years prior..
A purveyor of Conspiracy Literature (they are always present) waves his arms, hawking his wares.
A swat team arrives from under the triple underpass. And here we see some of the police after they got out of their cars prepared to break up a riot. That is the Triple Underpass behind them.
As you can see in this photo the police were being fired upon by many cameras. Even so, they quickly figured out that they were overdressed and removed the riot gear.

That concludes your virtual visit to Dallas & Dealey Plaza
for the 40th Anniversary of November 22, 1963.
