The Petrochemical industry is what fuels the economy of modern era
Deer Park, along with business activity along the Houston Ship
Channel. Deer Park is the Texas town closest to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site where the Battle of San Jacinto took place on April 21, 1836. Winning the Battle of San Jacinto won Texas its independence from Mexico, which led to the founding of the Republic of Texas. Due to being the location where the Battle of San Jacinto took place Deer Park considers itself the "Birthplace of Texas." The Mexican surrender in the Battle of San Jacinto took place in Dr. George Moffitt Patrick's cabin, which was located by nearby Buffalo Bayou. A replica of the Patrick Cabin has been built in Deer Park on Center Street in front of the Theatre Courts Building. |
