Stephen F. Austin Statue in Angleton Texas
Angleton is the county seat of Brazoria County. The town was founded in 1890 to support a connecting railroad track to the southern parts of Brazoria County. Faustino Kiber and Lewis Bryan laid out the townsite and named it Angleton after the George Angle family.

The Brazoria County Historical Museum is located in the 1897 Brazoria County Courthouse, which was the heart of Stephen F. Austin's Colony. Exhibits include depictions of the Austin Colony and chronicle the birth of the Republic of Texas.

The Brazoria County Fair is the largest county fair in Texas. The fair takes place every October.
In Henry William Munson Park in Angleton you will find a 60 foot statue of Stephen F. Austin standing on a 12 foot pedestal. The statue and its surrounding park celebrate the observation, recognition and appreciation of the importance of Brazoria County's contribution to the history of Texas. In the park you will also find a lake shaped like Texas with a 900 foot long "Walk of Honor" which pays tribute to those who have had an impact on the Brazoria area. In the park you will find a Visitor Center which will provide information, brochures and maps.

The Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge covers more than 42,000 acres along the Gulf Intercoastal Waterway. This is a nesting area for mottled ducks and an ancestral wintering grounds of snow geese. Since the Refuge was established, in 1966, 247 bird species have been identified. The Refuge also provides boat access for fishing, crabbing, oystering and waterfowl hunting in specifically permitted areas. The Refuge has a six mile long self-guided driving tour and hiking trail.
