At last count Arlington had a population of 380,084, which makes Arlington the 3rd largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metropolitan area, known locally, as the Metroplex. Arlington is the 7th largest city in Texas and the 49th largest city in America.

Arlington also has the distinction of being the largest city in America without a public transportation system. Two Interstate Highways pass through Arlington, I-20, known in Arlington as Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway and I-30, known in Arlington as Tom Landry Memorial Highway. Other freeways passing through Arlington are Texas State Highway 360 and U.S. Highway 287. 

Arlington is named after Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Virginia house which was named Arlington.

Arlington is the smallest city in America to play host to 2 major professional sports teams, with the Dallas Cowboys playing in Arlington's Cowboy Stadium and the Texas Rangers playing in the Ballpark in Arlington. With the 2011 Super Bowl Arlington will become the smallest town in America to host a Super Bowl.

Arlington's annual 4th of July Parade is one of the biggest 4th of July parades in America.

Arlington has a Sister City in Germany. Bad Königshofen and Arlington have been Sister Cities since 1952. Arlington's Bad Königshofen aquatic center is named after its sister city, while Bad Königshofen named a park after Arlington.
