New Braunfels SchlitterbahnSchlitterbahn Waterpark Resort in New Braunfels is considered by many to be the best waterpark in the world, so noted by the Travel Channel, Amusement Today and others.

Schlitterbahn opened in 1979, along side the 78 degree Edwards Aquifer spring waters of the Comal River. When it opened Schlitterbahn had only 4 water slides. The waterpark's developers, Bob and Billye Henry bought the 40 acre Landa Resort in the early 1970s. The slowly built up their waterpark in what they now call Schlitterbahn West. In 1991 the Henrys bought another chunk of land, 25 acres known as Camp Warnecke and turned that land into Schlitterbahn East.

The East and West sides of Schlitterbahn are several blocks apart, with a free shuttle between both and free parking at both. Schlitterbahn East is divided into 2 theme areas, those being Surfenburg and Blastenhoff.

Schlitterbahn, in 1994 unveiled the world's first uphill water ride, called the Dragon Blaster. With Dragon Blaster's success, more uphill water rides have been added, such as the Master Blaster and the Family Blaster. Entities such as the Travel Channel, and others, have picked the Master Blaster as the best water ride in America.

In addition to the uphill water coasters, Schlitterbahn has over 3 miles of inner tube meandering rivers, 17 water slides, 7 water playgrounds for kids, plus Boogie Bahn, which is the world's first surfing machine, used by professionals and regular waterpark visitors.

At Schlitterbahn, both the parking and the use of inner tubes is free. In addition to the waterslides there are pools, hot tubs, shady picnic grounds. You are welcome to bring your own picnic basket and cooler into the park. But no alcohol.. Schlitterbahn has year-round guest rooms available.
