TEXAS PROHIBITION

Texas never completely got over Prohibition. A county can be either dry, wet, or damp. The meaning of dry and wet is obvious. Damp is partially wet, as in there may be some sales of beer in some special circumstances. Within a county the various municipalities can make their own dry, wet or damp decisions, unless they are in a dry county, then they must stay dry. But the municipalities in a wet/damp county can decide on their degree of wetness. Some go completely dry; no liquor in stores, restaurants, anywhere. Others  allow beer sales in stores but not in restaurants. Others allow you to bring beer or wine into a restaurant, but the restaurant can't sell it, even though the store next door to the restaurant can sell you a bottle which you can bring into the restaurant that can't sell it. Some municipalities have a thing called a  Uni-Card which allows you to buy liquor in a restaurant. You must show your Uni-Card upon ordering a libation. However, in an area which uses Uni-Cards you may find yourself being given a free beer while you are shopping. As long as the store doesn't charge you for it, it violates no rule. When the Eyes on Texas first experienced Texas Prohibition it was thought that the person explaining it was joking. If the Eyes on Texas consumed these type liquids the entire ludicrous system would likely be more annoying....it's enough to drive a Yankee to drink Dr. Pepper....
