 Grand
Lake O' the Cherokees is in northeastern Oklahoma, west of the town of Grove.Work began on Pensacola Dam on the Grand River in 1938 as a New Deal Works Progress Administration project. Pensacola Dam is the longest multiple arch dam in the world, with its main span being made of 51 arches reaching almost a mile in length at 5,145 feet. The dam has 21 spillways, with a 6 unit powerhouse producing 120 megawatts. Two secondary dams a mile east of the main dam, known as "the spillways" have 21 floodgates. |

These dams created Grand Lake, which has become a hugely popular Oklahoma recreation resource. The surface area of Grand Lake covers 46,500 acres, with 1,300 miles of shoreline. Grand Lake is a deep and rocky lake, sitting, on average, 742 feet above sea level. A showboat called the Cherokee Queen has been floating on Grand Lake since the 1940s. The Picture in Scripture Amphitheater show, with panoramic bible dramas, is a top Grand Lake attraction. Grand Lake is very popular with sailboaters, due to its predictable winds. Golfing, camping, all water sports, biking, hiking and 4x4 trails are popular Grand Lake recreational activities.

help facilitate fishing at Grand Lake you'll find bait and tackle shops,
handicapped access, enclosed and heated fishing docks and regular fishing docks.
And of course you can fish from shore or a boat. There are 3 casinos by Grand Lake. The High Winds and Buffalo Run casinos are in Miami. The Grand Lake Casino is in Grove. Also in Grove is Lendonwood Gardens. This is a public botanical garden, open all year during daylight hours. |

You can rent a horse or go on a hayride at Monkey Island Trail Rides. There are several museums in the Grand Lake area. The Afton Station and Route 66 Packards Museum displays 14 vintage cars and Route 66 and Buffalo Ranch memorabilia. Har-Ber Village Museum is a reconstructed turn of the century village with over 100 buildings. By turn of the century we mean the century that preceded the most recent turn of a century. Har-Ber Village is one of the largest antique museums in America. Mariee Wallace Museum features American Indian and Trail of Tears artifacts and exhibits. In Afton there is the National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame. In Miami, on fabled Route 66, you'll find the historic Coleman Theatre Beautiful. The theater opened in 1929, with 1,600 seats. |

Grand Lake is ranked as one of the top
bass fishing lakes in America. There is a wide variety of fish in Grand Lake,
including Channel Catfish, Crappie, Hybrid Striped Bass, Largemouth Bass,
Paddlefish ,Spotted Bass, Sunfish, Walleye and White Bass.
