CAPITALS OF TEXAS

HOME    TEXAS REGIONS

All manner of Critters and Produce and Objects have Capitals in Texas. From Alligators to Black-eyed Peas to Cactus to Hot Air Balloons, there is likely a town or county in Texas proclaiming to be its Capital. But what is a Bois d'Arc of which the town of Commerce is the Capital? That mystery may only be resolved with a visit to Commerce....

According to Tracey McDaniel, the Director for the Texas Department of Economic Development Tourism Division---

"Texans like to brag about their communities, and these self-billed capital designations only add to our legend."

And from a Press Release issued by the above mentioned Texas Department of Economic Development Tourism Division---

"In keeping with the Lone Star state's penchant for boastful bombast, some towns capitalize on global monikers. Lubbock, hub of the High Plains, boasts of two distinctions - "Chrysanthemum Capital of the World" and "Cotton Capital of the World" while the state's capital city, Austin, claims to be the "Live Music Capital of the World."
