HOUSTON
ART CAR PARADE

HOME    TEXAS REGIONS

What clueless rube said there was no culture in Houston? After wandering around downtown Houston on foot---impressed with the buildings, impressed with many things---then driving out of downtown on an elevated freeway, able to look down on what looked to be a park with what looked to be unusual activity. So, at the first exit the hunt began to try and track back to the unusual sites that had been seen in passing. It did not take too many wrong turns to find the sprawling greenbelt/park area, where what you see in the following photos was assembled.

Hordes of Houstonians gawk at the parading Art Cars.

How many times have you seen this in a parade?

Apparently this is an annual event. The parade of Art Cars. Or Car Art. Note the beautiful skyline of downtown Houston in the background.

Big Hair is an art form in Texas. Here you see Car Art combined with the Art of Big Hair.

This must be a symbolic representation of George W.'s ravaging of the environment as the George W. RV is shown plowing into innocent mermaids.

It seems you can not have an event in the South without Elvis being represented in some way. On this car the history of rock and roll is portrayed in sequins. Glued to a car.

This is what is known as a Gothic Art Car Mobile. With a woman in black holding a rat dog. Eyes on Texas records every rat dog sighting.

A closeup view of an incredibly cute rat dog. Regrettably, his or her name is not known.

The militant feminist contingent of the Art Car Brigade.

A seashore in sequins. On a car.

Some more Marine/Aqua Art Car art.

Silver dollars were glued to this car. Well glued. Likely with super glue. No amount of prying could loosen a single dollar.

cars4.jpg (36278 bytes)

This car was covered with better vegetables than you ever see in a Texas grocery store.

cars7.jpg (39916 bytes)

This was a VW Bug before it became a German Shepard dog.

cars9.jpg (36558 bytes)

Jaws.

What Car Art Parade would be complete without a sand castle on top of a car?

cars17.jpg (33868 bytes)

This car got a ticket for driving in a no smoking zone.

Hope you enjoyed the Car Art Parade
